In this class you will learn how to cast-on, how to make the knit and purl stitches, and how to bind-off.  Using the knit and purl stitches in different combinations you will make garter stitch and stockinette stitch patterned fabric and a knit 2, purl 2 ribbing fabric.

You will also learn:

What is on the yarn ball band that you need to know?

What size is the yarn? Big, small or somewhere in between? (Yarn classification)  

Knitting needles, which ones? Circular, straight, bamboo, wood, slick metal

What is knitting gauge? And why it is important.

The cost of this class is $20 per class for Museum members and $25 for non members.

Preferred Yarn and Needles

1 skein, 3.5 oz., Patons, Classic Wool, Wosrsted, 100% wool, solid color only. No dark colors; like black, dark grey, navy or dark brown for this class. 

1 Pair US #7 straight knitting needles

Optional Yarn and Needles, in case of wool allergies

·         1 skein, 3.5 oz., Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice, 100% Acrylic, solid color only.  No dark colors; like black, dark grey, navy or dark brown for this class.

·         1 Pair US #9 straight knitting needles

Both yarns are available at Walla Walla’s JoAnn Store.  Please be sure to buy the appropriate needle size for your yarn choice; the two yarns do not use the same needle size.

It is suggested that you purchase a copy of the booklet called "How To Knit" put out by The National Needlearts Association. Copies of this book may be purchased through many online sources. Including The National NeedleArts Association. There will be 10 copies of this book available for purchase at the time of the class.
