An Appalachian Egg Basket class will be taught at Fort Walla Walla Museum on Sunday, October 11th from 12 noon until 4 PM.  A secondclass, for interested persons unable to attend the first scheduled class, will be on Sunday, November 22nd, from 12 noon to 4 PM. The instructor will be Maribeth Bergstrom.

Students will create an Appalachian Egg Basket, which is a double-bottomed basket.  Materials for creation of the basket will be provided (round reed and flat reed).  The main colors of the reed available will be a natural blond color, or a light pink/brown. Some other dyed reed will be available for contrast weaves.

The class will take 4 hours to complete a basket. Some of the weaving reed can be sent home if the time is more limited for some.

Participants should wear older clothing.  Some of the reeds are lightly dyed. Each participant should bring an old towel that can be placed across the lap, to decrease the chance of dyes getting on clothes, and to absorb any dampness from the wet reed.  Waterproof gloves may also be used.

This class s intended for students 14 years of age and older. Adult and senior participants are highly encouraged.

The cost for this class is $20 for members of Fort Walla Walla Museum, and $25 for non-members. Sign up for the class will be done through the Ft. Walla Walla Museum main telephone line (509-525-7703) during open hours of operation.  Class dues can be paid on the day of the class through the museum gift shop. Participants signing up for the class will need to be sure to attend, as the size of the class is limited.
