Cavalry Display

10am-5pm on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11

Fort Boise Garrison Cavalry and Infantry will be putting on display an 1870's military camp and presenting the history of the 1st US Regular Cavalry and 21st Infantry during the 1870's. They will also be demonstrating cannon firing and small arms (with blanks) throughout the display. Learn more about cavalry history (and their horses), infantry history, Victorian women’s dress, military encampments, and more.

To learn more about the Fort Boise Garrison Cavalry group, you can visit fortboisegarrisoncavalry.com. Their group often portrays the 1st Oregon Volunteers, whose headquarters were at Fort Walla Walla in 1862. Their job was to protect the miners, and immigrants traveling and mining in those areas. The 1st Oregon Volunteer Cavalry Regiment were then distributed by companies A through M all over Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.
