It seems that every time Edward Ball was issued a new Military Hat, it also came with a fresh set of adventures and locations.
Journey with us now, back to 19th-century history with Sgt. Ball, as he reminisces on his 39-year career as a Soldier, Dragoon, Cavalry, and Frontier Officer.
From his earliest days as an Infantryman, serving with General Zachary Taylor in the Mexican War, to his final career duty as a Major, commanding Ft. Meade in South Dakota, he had a ringside seat in all the conflicts in between. He fought in 2 major wars (the Mexican War and the Civil War) and numerous skirmishes, big and small, with Southwest, Northwest, and Midwest Indians.
Though his time spent at Ft. Walla Walla was brief, only about 7 months total, it was significant, as he was an important participant in both the Steptoe and Wright Campaigns of 1858.
Edward Ball is portrayed by actor/reenactor and avid history researcher Lyle Gleason, who brings over 40 years of experience to his shows.
